I grew up in the small mountain community of Nederland, Colorado. My mom, who taught kindergarteners, raised me and two older brothers as a single parent.
I spent most of my formative years playing all manner of sports and romping around the mountains, where I still escape to as much as I can. I worked a few different jobs all through high school and while attending the University of Colorado where, after initially studying film, I earned my B.A. with Distinction in Philosophy and a certificate in Peace and Conflict Studies. After college, I took a year to coach high school basketball before starting my Ph.D. at Georgetown University. While in D.C., I dove headfirst into a longstanding interest in dance (mostly modern). I was even crowned champion of Georgetown’s “Dancing with the Hoyas,” performing a cha-cha. I've had to work my way back from two hip surgeries in 2017, but I still spend the majority of my free time and energy dancing (mostly modern, jazz, floorwork, urban contemporary). I also read pretty voraciously (mostly non-fiction) and obsessively follow politics. |
